Michael Ward🎥

Hi, my name is Michael Ward and I like to point cameras at wildlife.
I can't explain why I like doing this, but it is the driving force that gets me out of bed and out into nature.

I'm creating all kinds of digital content focused on wildlife, be it photos, videos, vlogs, audio recordings. Anything that allows me to capture moments in nature digitally.
My goal is to transition into being able to focus on wildlife content full time. Eventually I would like to be shooting for documentaries. In the meantime I get in my practice as much as I can, and am sharing with you my steps along the way.

Your support helps me making all kinds of content, check out early access to everything I create as well as Patreon exclusives here.

Before the year ended, there was one last attempt to go out and see wildlife. Inspired by seeing a bird at a recent meetup where I don't bring a camera, I obviously wanted to come back with a camera. Maybe we'll spot the illusive Gray Ghost that I so want to see.

The weather sure is less than ideal given the conditions, all clouds and some snow, no sun. But we're giving it a go anyway.

Welcome to the wildlife filmmaking and photography channel of Michael Ward. Join me as we explore the wonders of wildlife together, capturing the beauty of the natural world through stunning visuals and immersive soundscapes.
It's a bit of a mystery to me as well, why I do this. I started taking photographs of birds and found it to be quite a thrilling challenge. It fulfills me more than anything else I've ever done in life and I realized it was more than a hobby, it was a passion. My older brother, a professional photographer for many years, piqued my interest in the field and I was able to learn a lot from him. Now, I'm sharing that knowledge and experience with others.
The entire point of this channel is to share the experiences, mistakes, and the entire journey. I make vlogs detailing each trip out and what I see. I learn what kinds of wildlife I find and do my best to identify it. Nature documentaries, especially those by David Attenborough and his teams, were a big inspiration to switch to video recording. I'm still learning every day and doing my best to share that on the channel.
I plan to travel more, as I currently have to work a full-time job. This is something I do whenever I have free time on the weekends. But I plan to start expanding and doing overnight trips and traveling the world to see as much wildlife as I can.

The Gray Ghost
For the past few years I've enjoyed taking a few moments at the end of each year to look back and reflect on some of the accomplishments, and make some plans for next year. This is that video.

2025 Recap
I didn't have much to say on this particular day out. But the birds did, especially the absolutely massive amounts of Geese.
I also have some really cool shots from this day over on Patreon after I stopped the cameras.

Letting the nature speak for itself
I could stay at home and accomplish nothing towards my goals, or I could drive around and look for birds from the car.
I think I chose well.

I also recorded the entire trip out, it's just about 2 hours. Over on Patreon, we talk about all kinds of things not wildlife related while I drive from spot to spot.

Weather Forecast: Snow. Wildlife viewing from the car
Now we get to see all the footage from the new camera. As I talked about in the vlog, this is kind of just a test to learn all the details and quirks of a new camera. But rather than just toss this footage out, I'll share it. It's still great peaceful nature footage.

Also as I talked about, the audio recording didn't work this time and I was so cold and focused on the new camera we just ran with the shotgun mic. Might be a little more background noise than usual of me fiddling with the camera setup and moving about.

Also Also, we went real widescreen this time as I didn't think about what ratio I'd want to use. I'll be working on that before the next time I take it out, so I can blend it with the main wildlife camera. Little lessons I'm learning as I go.

Foggy Morning Sunrise at the Lake ~ Just The Nature
The last two videos I talked about the cameras that I'm using and my plan going forward. Now it's time to put it into action and get back out there.
It's going to be a foggy and cold morning, perfect for testing out a new piece of equipment.

Hoping to film wildlife and nature with the new camera
He did not make it out.

But that's okay, here's the unexpected sequel to "Camera Chat"
I really fought myself to not name this "electric boogaloo"

Camera Chat The 2nd
I took a long hard look at what I've been doing lately.
And although I was feeling under the weather, I had some thoughts I wanted to voice to myself and to a camera.
Also maybe there's something exciting as far as new equipment goes.

Camera Chat
I've gotten into the habit of strapping a camera to my chest while I walk about taking pictures. And as been noted by viewers like you, it's a worthwhile endeavor.
So here's a brisk winter morning where I'm out walking through a park in Boulder Colorado looking for birds to photograph. And if you saw the vlog from this day, you know we didn't leave disappointed.

As usual the pictures can be a seen in the vlog, or the full day's worth on Patreon.
